The inaugural Nike Basketball 3ON3 Tournament came to the streets of L.A. LIVE, the premiere entertainment and sports district that surrounds Staples Center and Microsoft Theater (formally Nokia Theater) on August 7, 2009. The inaugural tournament had over 500 teams and more than 13,000 players and spectators.
Nike Basketball 3on3 Tournament has grown to become one of the largest 3on3 street basketball tournaments, Dunk Contests and fan fests in Los Angeles. This year over 1,000 teams are expected to take part. Capra Photography has been it’s official photographer for over 5 years.

THE EXPERIENCE
Nike 3on3 is an event unlike any other. The main court on the center plaza is where all main events take place, such as the Slam Dunk Contest. It is such a fast paced event and often draped with the hot Los Angeles summer sun. With hundreds of courts laid out on the streets of Los Angeles, a celebrity game, thousands of players and sponsorship needs, good coverage means many hours walking and a good pair of Nikes. The Slam Dunk contest is one of the most dynamic things to shoot – and by far the most fun!
THE PRODUCT
With daily uploading and selecting from thousands of images this event proves to be one where the product has many uses. The Nike 3on3 website and the Facebook page became the two main areas where the photographs were put to use. We posted 30-5- images daily on Facebook for same day interactions. The collection of images showed the atmosphere, the final games, the slam dunk contest and the sponsorship involvement. One of the slam dunk images from last year was created into a graphic to become the main promotional shot for the 2015 tournament.
